George C. Marshall graduated from Virginia Military Institute (VMI) in 1901.  He was commissioned a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army in February of 1902. For the next fifty years, he served his country with distinction both as a soldier and statesman.

 

He was named ‘Man of the Year’ by Time Magazine in 1943 and won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1953.  He died in 1959 and is buried in Arlington National Cemetery.  To learn more about this remarkable man, visit the Marshall Museum on the VMI Campus.
